The Real Story

My name is Appolonia, and I am a 40-year-old mom of six who recently entered perimenopause and felt completely lost.

I’ve been heavy since I was a teenager, but after having my last three girls, I gained more than 100 pounds. I was frustrated, depressed, and looking for help. I also wanted to connect with women who understood what I was going through.

But weight is only one part of my story.

I’m in recovery from addiction, with eight years sober. Recovery is an important part of who I am, and I know what it means to work toward change while still having difficult days.

I’m also the Chief Executive Officer of a group home agency supporting people with intellectual disabilities. And as the mom of a daughter with autism, supporting people with different needs is personal to me, too. My life includes motherhood, leadership, recovery, and caring for others—but I needed to make room to care for myself.

When I started my GLP-1 weight-loss journey, I began looking for answers. I struggled to find information and personal stories that reflected my experience: being over 40, navigating perimenopause, raising a family, managing a demanding career, and trying to understand my changing body.

I wanted to hear from other women going through perimenopause and menopause while using GLP-1 medications. Women willing to talk honestly about their struggles, their progress, and what everyday life on this journey actually looks like.

That’s why I started my YouTube channel and The Appolonia Project.

I’m only about halfway through my own journey. I’m still learning, still figuring things out, and still working toward

my goals. But I didn’t want to wait until I reached the finish line to help someone else feel less alone.

The Appolonia Project is a place to share my experience, ask questions, explore information, and bring women together. A place where we can talk openly about weight loss, changing bodies, recovery, motherhood, setbacks, and victories—without pretending we have everything figured out.

I believe women of all sizes are beautiful. I also believe we deserve support when we choose to make changes for ourselves.

If you’re feeling lost, frustrated, or unsure where to begin,

I hope you find connection here. You don’t have to have all the answers to take your next step.

I’m still writing my story, and I want to make room for yours, too.
